WHAT EFFECT DOES BROTH HAVE? IMMUNE SYSTEM AND AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES.

We know a healthy broth as a helpful household remedy – and rightly so. Bone broth strengthens the immune system, promotes intestinal health and provides important nutrients for bones, joints and skin. But what makes bone broth so nutritious? A rich, healthy broth from bone contains a variety of vitamins, minerals and proteins and can therefore unfold its positive effect in the body. 1. broth for colds

You probably remember it from your childhood: when you caught a cold, grandma cooked a nice steaming chicken soup. Even if this is an old household remedy, its effect is by no means humbug. The results of a study published in Chest magazine support the medical effect of chicken soup. The study shows that the consumption of chicken soup during a respiratory infection restricts the movement of neutrophils. Neutrophils are the white blood cells that are released by the immune system during cold symptoms and flu-like infections. At the same time, however, they trigger inflammatory processes in the body. However, it is not entirely clear how chicken soup works exactly and which components are responsible for the improvement of the disease symptoms. However, it is probably the interaction of the various nutrients contained in a well-cooked chicken soup. The fact is: a hot broth for colds strengthens, strengthens, warms, supplies fluids and thus also moistens the respiratory tract. A warm broth for colds is also very good for sore throats.

This is how the ingredients of a healthy broth work:

The various amino acids contained in a well cooked broth containing collagen certainly play a central role in this. One of these is cysteine, which causes the mucous membranes to swell and has a mucolytic effect. This makes it easier to cough from the lungs, for example. Another amino acid is glutamine, which promotes the proliferation of immune cells – the cells responsible for a strong immune system.

Besides, there’s the dipetide carnosine. Carnosine may help the immune system to ward off early stage flu infections.

If you add cartilage as well as bone, you can increase the immune stimulating properties of your soup. This is because cartilage boosts the immune system when needed, as it increases the ability of white blood cells to kill unwanted viruses and bacteria. So a broth can help you to get back on your feet quickly if you have a cold.

2. broth for immune system & intestinal health

The strength of the immune system depends on the health of the intestines. After all, 80 % of the immune cells are located in this organ. Bone broth contains many nutrients that are important for the intestine and a regulated digestion. And at the same time the whole body benefits from this, because a healthy intestine strengthens the immune system. A healthy broth is an anti-inflammatory food that supports the body and can help prevent serious illnesses or alleviate their symptoms through its high nutrient content.

Bone broth can therefore have a supporting effect against numerous diseases in the intestine. Especially the Leaky Gut Syndrome causes problems for many people. Leaky Gut is a barrier disorder in the small intestine – small holes occur in the intestinal wall. As a result, small particles of the digested food enter the bloodstream which do not belong here. The immune system discovers them, attacks them and triggers an immune response. At the same time, however, an inflammation develops. In the worst case, the Leaky Gut even promotes autoimmune diseases. These tiny holes in the intestine are also a cause of allergies, intolerances, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

Autoimmune diseases are chronic inflammatory diseases. The immune cells are misdirected and attack the body’s own cells. In Germany, an estimated ten to 15 million people are affected. Autoimmune diseases manifest themselves in different ways in the body depending on the tissue affected.

As seen: Some autoimmune problems start in the intestine and patients almost always suffer from a damaged intestine. In autoimmune diseases such as lupus erythematosus or rheumatoid arthritis, the joints and cartilage are also affected.

A good broth cooked from grazing animal bones is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, collagen and glycosaminoglycans. These nutrients help in addressing the root causes of the above problems really well. A nutritious bone broth helps the body to solve intestinal problems, soothe the immune system and relieve pain. Let’s look at the ingredients in detail:

 

collagen

Autoimmune diseases are accompanied by a loss of tissue. Rheumatoid arthritis is particularly bad because collagen tissue disappears in the joints. But the body also has to build tissue in all other autoimmune processes. And this is exactly where a healthy broth from bone helps, because the amino acids from gelatine correspond exactly to those that the body now needs. The amino acids from broth are particularly well resorbable for the body and it can start with the reconstruction.

 

glutamine

A healthy bone broth is particularly rich in glutamine. Glutamine is found in the gelatine formed. It is a non-essential amino acid. This means that the body can actually make them itself. However, in dysbioses (the imbalance of various bacteria) and other intestinal diseases, the absorption of glutamine can be extremely reduced. Under these conditions we have to supply the body with glutamine through food.

Glutamine, along with other amino acids, helps form glutathione – an important antioxidant that helps the body detoxify heavy metals. This makes sense in the case of an autoimmune disease, because heavy metals are discussed as one of the triggers or amplifiers of autoimmune diseases. At the same time it breaks down hormones and is responsible for the regeneration of chronic inflammatory diseases. Furthermore glutamine – as already seen – can help to regenerate the intestine by rebuilding the intestinal villi and nourishing the intestinal mucosa. This is particularly important in the case of celiac disease.
 

glycine

Glycine scores particularly highly for its highly anti-inflammatory properties. It can therefore have a positive effect on chronic inflammatory diseases, including autoimmune diseases.

Even if the nitrogen load is too high, glycine supports the body in detoxification and helps to rebuild tissue. Just like glutamine, it is a component of gluthation and thus promotes the detoxification of heavy metals. Glycine is the most abundant amino acid in collagen and is therefore contained in a rich bone broth.

 

phosphatidylserine

Numerous autoimmune diseases are associated with a disorder of the adrenal gland. The cortisol level is often increased as a result. Cortisol is an endogenous hormone that is involved in many metabolic processes and is increasingly released during stress – colloquially it is also referred to as “stress hormone”. One of the substances that can help lower cortisol levels is phosphatidylserine. Phosphatidylserine, however, is obtained from soy and is very expensive.

But there is another way: Phosphatidylserine is also abundantly contained in bone marrow and brain. However, probably very few people in Central Europe want to eat a piece of brain or suck marrow directly from the bone. That is why a healthy broth from marrow bone is particularly suitable for the absorption of phosphatidylserine. Mark dumplings are also a real delicacy and can be taken as a special addition to the menu.
